Miss Mays: A Next-Generation E-Commerce Platform for the Online Adult Industry
In July 2006, Miss Mays, an online adult store, approached us with the goal of launching a new e-commerce platform inspired by the Kinky Gadgets website we had successfully developed in 2004. However, with technology evolving rapidly, the original site’s code base was outdated. To accommodate their growing needs and provide a more robust experience, we recommended a complete redevelopment of the platform.
Upgrading the Tech Stack
The initial redevelopment was started using ASP.Net 1.1, but with the recent launch of ASP.Net 2.0, we pivoted to the latest framework to future-proof the platform. The final site was a seamless blend of ASP.Net 2.0, CSS/XHTML, and SQL Server 2000, ensuring both performance and flexibility.
To maintain high development standards, we implemented a custom HttpHandler module that automatically formatted outputted text and code to comply with the latest industry standards. This approach ensured that the CMS system integrated into the site remained lightweight while eliminating unnecessary complexities.
Seamless Payment Integration
Unlike previous e-commerce projects where WorldPay was the standard payment provider, Miss Mays opted for Protx due to its superior support and integration capabilities. This decision also brought cost advantages, offering a flat fee of £20 per month for up to 1,000 transactions per quarter.
Additionally, we built the platform in a way that allowed for a potential transition to in-house payment processing in the future, giving Miss Mays full control over transaction fees and processing power once their traffic volume justified the shift.

The layout and visual identity of the Miss Mays online store were crafted by Northampton-based design studio Cocoa Creative. Their expertise brought a sleek, engaging, and user-friendly design that complemented the robust e-commerce functionality we developed.
