uCommerce (the developers of the e-commerce platform that runs on Umbraco) asked us to develop an example e-commerce store to showcase the super out-of-the-box functionality they offer.

As we have developed several very successful e-commerce websites on uCommerce since it's launch, we were in an ideal position to show others how e-commerce should be done.

We were asked to introduce the core functionality uCommerce offers and a few e-commerce best-practices. To avoid confusing the developer with unfamiliar logic, it was decided that we should avoid introducing too many unfamiliar techniques so the user could easily follow how to use the uCommerce platform.

We devised a new website -Avenue Clothing- which demonstrates the simple; yet powerful e-commerce functionality uCommerce brings to the powerful Content Management System; Umbraco.

Built on Twitter Bootstrap (a popular HTML scaffolding system which allows users to quickly build website layouts), the home page is designed to immediately introduce the customer to and upsell key products.

The product list page follows a standard structure; displaying product images and high level descriptions in a clean and
clear way.

The product page is fully loaded with the user in mind. For those users with browsers which support it, products are added to the cart without refreshing the page.

When an item is in the user's cart they are alerted and where products are available in multiple variations (colours, sizes etc), the options available to the visitor are automatically updated!
